Turning Surplus Food Into Community Support

California’s SB 1383 law was created to reduce organic waste, recover edible food, and help redirect good food away from landfills and into communities. Food recovery is an important part of reducing waste while helping make sure edible food reaches people instead of being thrown away.

For more information about SB 1383 and edible food recovery, please visit the CalRecycle website. Food Para Todos supports local edible food recovery efforts by helping recover surplus edible food and redirect it into trusted community spaces throughout Merced County.

How Food Para Todos Supports Food Recovery

Food Para Todos works with food donors, schools, businesses, public agencies, and community partners to support edible food recovery efforts

Our work may include:

  • Coordinating food recovery partnerships
  • Recovering surplus edible food
  • Supporting same-day redistribution whenever possible
  • Helping connect food donors with community partners
  • Tracking recovered food through photos, weights, and documentation
  • Providing monthly reports by food weight and category
  • Supporting landfill diversion and community food access goals
  • Helping food donors document their edible food recovery efforts for SB 1383 reporting

Monthly Reporting and Documentation

Food Para Todos provides monthly reporting to help food donors document their edible food recovery efforts. Our reports include accurate weights, food categories, and photos of donated items when available.

These reports can help food donors show what was recovered, how much was donated, and how the food was redirected into the community. This information can be used for internal records or submitted to the appropriate county or local agency to help demonstrate food recovery efforts related to SB 1383 requirements.

We will work with you to help you recover edible food, document your donations, and support your efforts to remain aligned with SB 1383 food recovery goals.

Start a Food Recovery Partnership
